The shadows lurked eerily into the corners, slithering on the roof until the room was consumed by its obscurity.

An unsettling silence awoke Micah from his slumber, and he woke up muttering gibberish.

“Not again,” He whispered as he saw the shadows looking violently at him.

Quickly he closed his eyes and pretended to fall asleep, hoping the shadow would disappear.

His mind churned, and the air in the room became thick.

Perspiration ran over his body like the Nile River overflowing its bank.

An owl outside his window hooted eerily, as it flew to and fro in the wind.

Demanding footsteps paced back and forth behind his door.

Micah gulped and trembled, even though his eyes were closed he saw everything he heard.

Quickly he sprang to his feet and bolted to his bedroom light switch and flipped it on.

Panting heavily, he held onto the nightstand to steady his shaking legs

He looked at the ceiling and sighed heavily.

It was the third time this week that he was unable to sleep through the night.

He went to the restroom and splashed cold water on his face, and glanced at his Timex watch it was 2:30 am.

Walking slowly, back to his bedroom, Micah felt the tension rising in his crown and knew it was a result of his earlier fright.

He paced back and forth deciding whether he should go back to bed or prep for his meeting later today.

The former was frightening, too frightening to consider so he decided on the latter.

His phone alarm went off which was odd as he did not set one the night before.

Micah grabbed his phone and the reminder on his screen jolted him fully to reality.

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4

Micah felt a rushing wind entering immediately in his room and a still soft voice in his ear prodding “Go to sleep I am with you”.

Immediately Micah felt sleepy, flipped the light switch off, and scurried under the sheets.

Like clockwork, the footsteps outside his doors began pacing, the howl hooted in the night sky, and the shadows returned with a mocking scowl.

Micah opened his eyes, sat up straight, and said firmly to the dark, ‘HELLO FEAR, I AM NOT AFRAID’!
